Getting new headphones soon and I've heard good things from both brands. Which is better for the price?

I don't think you can really go wrong with either brand.
I've personally never used Sennehiser, but I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I have used audiotechnica headphones and am very satisfied with them.
I bought some ATHAD500x headphones for use with my computer, they are the cheapest open air headphones they make, about $80.
    And wow...
    :lawd:
Absolutely love these headphones, the only regret I have about these headphones is that I got the cheapest model. They have about 4 more expensive models, and I seriously wonder what those sound like if the cheapest model sounds like this.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are the obvious choice. A lot of people rec them.
Sennheiser is a quality brand so they probably offer comparable options.
    I wouldn't say there's a clear winner. It's preference at that point.

Sony MDR7506 are a cheaper alternative with equal quality. I use them.
Their build is more meant for home use. Would never wear them in public.
I definitely prefer ear buds when on the go.

how are open back headphones? really thinking of getting them to get that 'right there with the musicians' feel. is the bass still pronounced and punchy?

as for audio technica or sennheiser, i have the sennheiser momentum and sound quality wise they are incredible, my ears are just a little too big so it gets really uncomfortable so be weary of that

Open back, by design, don't provide a punchy base.
That's why a lot of hip-hop heads don't use them.

I recommend you the V-moda M-100 headphones. Amazing headphones. Crystal clear + amazing for hip hop music too. Pretty much a great all rounder. I actually bought them again today, as I lost my previous m-100's...

Overall I would never limit myself to just a few brands. Try many brands out. Although I would prefer Sennheiser. I'm not a fan of the bulky Audio Technica's.

True... But definitely worth the price.
Sorry, didn't know you were looking for headphones under 100 pounds.

    What about these headphones?

I'm posting these ones in particular because the other options are studio headsets and they are not a good option for using them outside
