Been thinking about getting a new laptop recently and was wondering whether i should try something different and go for a mac or not. Which do you use? Which do you think is better and why?

I use a 2011 Macbook Pro and it still works great. However, I only purchased it because of a school scholarship and if I had to spend my own $2k on a computer, it would not be a mac. You can build/buy a "faster", "better" (hardware) computer for like.. $1k.

With Mac's you are basically paying for the brand. I mean.. I think mac's are better than windows.. but that's because I prefer the iOS system. If you have interest in gaming, mac's are complete s---. School-wise they are great and offer things Windows doesn't.

Considering that it's a $2k computer and still runs great after 4 years is a big plus imo because I know some brands wear a lot more quickly but when it comes down to it, I'd rather have $2k cash, buy a great Windows and use the other $1k for whatever else.

I don't regret buying it but I realize it's pricy and generally not worth it considering the alternatives.

I will say though, b------s in college give you the sex eye when they see you chilling in the library on a $2k Macbook…

like what, windows 10 (with free keylogger!), a google -- chromebook, a plastic computer from a dying company whose tech support staff probably included @Narsh at some point?

how is a mac that runs windows less flexible than a pc that doesn't run mac os?

h--- no, I absolutely hate the new Windows systems..

I would put Windows XP or the one right after that (Vista I think) on it and leave it be.

I will admit, the Apple Genuis Bar is very nice.. if you ever have issues, you can bring your mac in and they figure out what's wrong and it's typically free if you purchased the warranty.. my warranty expired already but they still gave me a new charger for free when I broke mine.

Good customer support imo.

Well.. running Windows on a Mac is usually done only for very specific reasons and because of that I give the edge to Mac for even allowing such a thing.

Same here I grew up on Windows but I ended up with a macbook cause I wanted a reliable laptop for school/personal use and I felt this was the best choice considering I had a sum of money to spend on it.

Have a mac right now but I definitely prefer windows, had too many problems with my mac and just don't like the setup and all that as much. Probably going back to windows with my next laptop. I realize most people's feedback is basically the opposite of mine but oh well, this is how it's gone for me.

... Or you could get an Ultrabook running Windows 7 like I did (Samsung Series 9) as an alternative.
And also, while Mac allowing people to run Windows is pretty awesome, it usually reduces battery life quite significantly.

so much s--- just flat out isn't built for anything but Windows, from all sorts of games and applications throughout the years, and it's easier to find torrents/tutorials for Windows based s---. not to mention that Windows is also nowhere near as locked down. I generally love Apple products, but I won't f--- with a Mac over Windows tbh.

also after growing up on Windows from day one of a computer, I can't imagine trying to relearn all the keyboard shortcuts/layouts and different settings and file extensions/paths/layouts/locations for an entirely different system. would be a nightmare for me personally

I have an iMac and a Surface Pro 3. Love both of them, but I use applications only compatible with windows so much more. Building your own PC is really the way to go. While the iMac is shiny and nice it's overly expensive.

Windows can do more but have the tendency to get viruses up real f---ing quick even when you don't go on the wrong sites. Mac can't do as much but it's a lot easier to organize s--- & you have to be a f---ing moron to make it non usable
