Jun 24, 2015 This has been a hot topic in the US for years and more recently since the shooting in South Carolina where the flag still flies over the capitol. Places like California have banned its sale and display while many places in the South still wave it proudly. Should it be banned from government property, why or why not?
Jun 24, 2015 Better late than never I suppose. Why it took this long for people to even discuss this is what I don't understand.
Jun 24, 2015 It's such a primitive ideology that people still cling on to, beyond me how that flag is still displayed in places across the U.S.
Jun 24, 2015 Oh it's been discussed, Southern whites dgaf however & many blacks down there that are 40- while offended have very mixed views on it to my surprise. Should it be banned? At this point, yes. That flag only needs to be shown in history books, it's like waving a Nazi flag in present day Germany/Israel
Jun 24, 2015 Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the few exceptions where I didn't mind the flag because of how it was utilized, but they even got rid of it 2 years ago
Jun 24, 2015 You'll get shot on site for waving a ISIS flag around though so it might as well be banned. Our 1st Amendment protect everything so we can say what we want but you can't ban s--- you can only restrict by law or force.
Jun 24, 2015 I changed the title to reflect Government property. While Swastikas and ISIS flags aren't banned, people aren't hanging them from their doorsteps or on bumper stickers and when they do it's a big deal
Jun 24, 2015 If we can burn the American flag under the first amendment, we should be able to use confederate flags. I'm probably one of few members from an area where people embrace the confederate flag. From an outsider point of the view, the only time you hear about it is in racism scandals it would seem. That's really not the case. When I see it on somebody's bumper I don't think "they hate black people" although they probably do. That's not its exclusive meaning. They probably rub Grizzly and hunt deer also, but that's not what the flag means. It didn't mean that during the Civil War either. Government property is a different discussion. No, something publicly funded shouldn't endorse something so controversial.
Jun 24, 2015 probably shouldn't be banned generally speaking. sure Nazi imagery has been banned in Germany, but the US does things a little differently. i think it is self evident that it should not be flown on government property. a flag that represents armed insurrection against the government and the greatest existential threat the nation has truly faced doesn't really belong there. and despite not being banned, anyone who flies the flag should be met with scorn and derision from all intelligent people. the flag is absolutely 100% a symbol of racism, and the people who wear or display it should be treated the same as someone who wears a shirt supporting slavery or segregation. displaying the Confederate flag shouldn't make you a criminal, but it does expose you as a pathetic loser
Jun 25, 2015 rednecks have Confederate flags and bumper stickers here in (Alberta) Canada, if it means Southern pride to some people it means proud, defiant ignorance to most everyone else it has come to symbolize defiance and anti-social views. to answer the question, it shouldn't be banned for sale but it shouldn't be displayed on government property
Jun 25, 2015 Obviously. I mean, if not, we may as well allow Klan uniforms too, and eventually Swastikas.
Jun 25, 2015 @Cyreides Klan robes and swastikas aren't illegal (in the USA) they're just socially unacceptable
Jun 25, 2015 I know they're not illegal lol. But you don't actually think anyone is allowed to go around wearing those on government property who works for the government do you? f--- no. This flag should be no different.
