I'm trying to get something together for a submission to music blogs, but I need to figure out some sort of one pager bio thing with relevant info about the album I'm working on, and just in general about me and my production, but I don't have the slightest clue how to write a bio or what's relevant.

Captain Awesome gave me this as a sort of template to work off of, but I'm still clueless as to how to actually approach this:

bio -
LA-based alternative blues/rock band NightOwl is made of 4 friends, Daniel Focil, Jackson Englund, and brothers Xavier and Bernardo Aguilera. Although the 4 grew up playing music together, things picked up in the summer of 2014 when they began jamming in Jackson’s garage late at night. “We would jam for hours on end, playing whatever came to mind,” says Jackson.


Having been raised on 60s/70s blues, rock, and psychedelic bands, such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones, Jackson’s garage quickly became a nesting ground for groove-laden tunes with bluesy-rock undertones. “Our influences are inevitably more classically inclined,” says Daniel. “We’re mostly rock n’ roll.” NightOwl’s sound is also augmented by the playful, adventurous spirit of the beaches and deserts they grew up around.


Their late-night garage sessions laid out the foundation for the band’s collaborative setup, in that many songs have spawned purely from jam sessions. “Usually, we’ll start playing a random melody, and then it ends up turning into a full song – almost like we know how it was supposed to be played out all along,” says Jackson. Bernardo adds, “Sometimes, one of us will bring a song to the table, but by the end of the session, we transform it into something completely different because we all add our individual piece to it.”


While some songs are written and structured off the bat, others are kept as rough drafts and polished during their live performances. “None of the songs are ever complete,” says Daniel. “We tighten up the screws once we go into the studio.” Although NightOwl is collaborative and improvisational in nature, however, they are in no way a jam band. The end product is always structured and connected by a rugged, catchy allure that compares to modern-day bands, such as Arctic Monkeys and The Black Keys.


NightOwl is currently putting together the finishing touches on their EP, which was recorded at Stag Street with Gustavo Farias and Dan Moore. “Since we collaborate, and essentially, play each other’s songs, the EP will be eclectic,” says Xavier. “None of the songs will sound the same.

As a listener I'm drawn into your production because of it's ability to paint a picture without any words. Or something like that.

i write bios all the time. i'm tired and my brain is fried and i'm not going to go through it line-by-line, but what you have is actually pretty good. just make the beginning more creative--say something declarative about the group up top instead of jumping into rote information. i.e.- talk about the band like you're telling a story. try to run themes throughout. and as a technical point: don't say you're finishing up an album or whatever. talk about the record as if it's done, and describe in a way that's enticing.

yeah @Cyreides i sent that to u literally as a template to plug in ur own personal info and work from there. @WPG is right in his suggestions, although i think you need to brainstorm what exactly youre going for, what influencers youre looking to reach, what sound ur trying to tap into etc before u start promoting anything.
