On the day that Kobe Bryant will play his final NBA game, 2K Sports announced that the Lakers superstar and 18-time All-Star will grace the cover of a special version of NBA 2K17 called the "Legend Edition."


This version of the professional basketball game will include all manner of Kobe-themed digital and physical content (see below).

"It's a great honor to partner with 2K on the NBA 2K17 Legend Edition," Bryant said in a statement. "As I walk off the NBA court for the final time, it's exciting to know my fans can continue to celebrate my lifelong career as a Los Angeles Laker."

The $80 Legend Edition comes with physical and digital content, including:

Physical Items:

• Limited-edition Kobe poster;
• Two Kobe Panini trading cards;
• Black Mamba game controller skin.

Digital Content:

• 30,000 Virtual Currency;
• MyTEAM Bundle + (includes 3 packs with guaranteed Kobe limited use card);
• Nike Kobe 11 retirement shoes;
• Kobe #8 Mitchell and Ness jersey;
• Kobe hoodie.

The Legend Edition will be available in digital and physical formats, but digital buyers will only receive the digital content.

f--- man, game alone is already 80 bucks in Canada. This will prob be 99.99.

I should alternate each year to. I buy 2K every year but don't play it much at all. I sell them in August for 30 bucks or so to help pay for the next instalment but really it just sits there on my shelf. I played 2K16 last probably around Christmas time not going to lie.

I traded 4 or 5 games, got $80 for them. Put the money on a pre-order for this edition of 2K17, I can't wait to play with the USA/Boomers teams.

They just had to add in the Dream Team again hey lol. I'd love for them to add in a 2005 or 2007 Spurs legendary team. Need another version of Timmy aside from his rookie year now.

I want the 08 & 12 Olympic teams too, not sure why they can't just add all of them.

Hopefully they add more throwback teams in general. Barkley being on the Dream Team gives me hope that we'll get the 92 Suns.

Unless you guys are super fanatics of 2K. If you wait usually a month or 2 the game goes on sale a lot. I've seen 2K16 go on sale for half off at least 10 times. I didn't preorder 2K17 because of this. I'll sell my 2K16 then I'll pick up 2K17 when it's on for 39.99 or miss it altogether. I used to play these games religiously in High School but have stopped. The last one I remember pouring a ton of time into was 2K9 :S

The 92 Suns should have been in this last one as well. I played with a legends roster the other day, that was pretty dope aside from a lot of players who aren't in the game anywhere being created by the user. 2K should include that roster themselves.

Wait, so is Kobe even playable in the legend edition of this??? Odd it doesn't mention that. Or is he in both editions? I know they mostly have some retired players and teams.

I don't really have an answer aside from the 00-01 Lakers team. Unless they do something similar like MJ's career with 2K11 but for Kobe but I don't think they will?

Yeah I would think they would have mentioned it by now if they were doing what they did with MJ where you could re-play a bunch of classic moments or whatever.

Seems like a cheap way to capitalize off Kobe's retirement and popularity tbh, doesn't sound like you get a lot of b--- for your buck for that Kobe special edition, I'll probably pass on it.

I might pass on this game in general actually or at least wait till it's cheaper, last year's 2K was an incredible game but wouldn't save correctly on my xbox one no matter what I tried, so I ended up selling it shortly after.

I'll probably pick up football and hockey games before basketball this year.

Here in Canada each week bestbuy has sales. I always check Bestbuy on Friday to see what's on sale. The sport games go on sale quickly. So if you aren't one for needing a sports game right away just wait and you'll get it much cheaper.

I really liked 2k16 but found the shot meter was off. In 2k15 when I released the shot button the meter would stop. In 2k16 it felt a bit lagged which was odd. Great game though but the extent to how much time I put into them is so minimal I'm thinking no more day 1 purchases and more wait a few months and if I'm really aching for it I'll get it.
