Jun 9, 2016 Not specific to rap but just music in general. Which do you do? Lyrics do nothing for me personally so I don't pay much attention to anything other than the singer/rappers tone/flow/sound along with the instrumental/beat etc. and treat their voice simply as if it's another instrument.
Jun 9, 2016 If the lyrics are bad I notice them. To me, it's more about how the song sounds as a whole. It's probably the reason why I really like Rodeo. I like when artists use their voice as a part of the instrumental, or to compliment it, if you get me.
Jun 9, 2016 Yeah, this is it 99% of the time, but I actually take back what I say in the OP, sometimes lyrics do it for me, but it has to be something extremely personal and relate-able for me, and not many songs are for a variety of reasons.
Jun 9, 2016 I'd like to say both but sometimes the lyrics might be so corny and trash that even godly production can't save it. Example: every 21 pilots song ever
Jun 9, 2016 sometimes the lyrics of a song can be a little jarring for me and i may start to dislike a song, but it's rare that i notice them in a bad way
Jun 9, 2016 I def. get that. Like, even though Nero are my all time favorite group and it's sort of a staple of a lot of EDM to have repetitive and minimal lyrics, it sometimes annoys the s--- out of me in their songs, especially when those repetitive lyrics get used in builds.
Jun 9, 2016 Lyrics. There for the content within the sound. Your song could sound hard but If the lyrics s--- then meh
Jun 9, 2016 That's why I'm in a love hate relationship with this current era. Songs sound hard but most of the time the lyrics are repetitive af and s---
Jun 9, 2016 theres artists i can listen to a whole project without remembering a single bar they said theres artists that i strictly listen to for the lyrics not everything is black and white
Jun 9, 2016 Yeah who listens to music for the lyrics anymore? All about the flow f--- what they're saying
Jun 9, 2016 I happen to be extremely picky when it comes to music. I ONLY listen to songs that display the utmost lyrical talent. Mostly Eminem, Nas, Brother Ali, Tech N9ne, etc. However I did happen to find this new artist who will, undoubtedly, become a lyrical legend in his time. Check him out! Spoiler: Example
Jun 9, 2016 Honestly though, it depends on the scenario. If it's 2:30am at the club, I don't give a f--- what Kendrick has to say about life or racial issues.
