At this point everyone classifys all 'Rap' music as Hip Hop and vice versa
    Eminem - Rap
    Mf Doom - Rap
    Earl Sweatshirt - Hip Hop
    :rockynotimpressed:
Wtf is the difference at this point? These terms are constantly used interchangeably, I believe we should classify 'Rap' as in battle rap.

There's no examples needed. Rap is a sub-genre of Hip Hop. Like Heavy Metal is a sub-genre of Rock. That's the reason there are different terms used.

Historically, Hip Hop comprises 4 elements, 1 of which is rap

The four elements of Hip Hop are DJing, MCing (a.k.a. rapping), B-Boying (a.k.a. breakdancing) and graffiti writing.

No one has ever called them selves a hip hopper...they're rappers. So yes, rap is relevant.

Hip hop music, also called hip-hop or rap music, is a music genre formed in the United States in the 1970s that consists of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, break dancing, and graffiti writing.[ Other elements include sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing.

While often used to refer to rapping, "hip hop" more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture. The term hip hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music, hough rapping is not a required component of hip hop music; the genre may also incorporate other elements of hip hop culture, including DJing, turntablism, and scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks

    Any more questions?

Hip hop and rap are the same thing. I hate when people try to act like they're different

The hip hop/rap difference is only propogated by nerds on the Internet, no one irl worth listening to is saying "he doesn't break dance enough, it's only rap." The terms are interchangeable.
