Advertising on places like Facebook, Twitter, etc. for your music/art? What was your opinion of it all if you've used it?

Thought this could an interesting topic of discussion, as there's a lot of cool options for building followers and getting more pageviews pretty quickly. Personally, I've used the services a couple times on Facebook to boost a song or two for a little bit of time, and I'm trying out Twitters advertising starting today.

I hate having to self-promote myself. It's really hard to try and stand out among the standard lameboy, dime-a-dozen internet artists (because everyone our at our popularity is essentially a lameboy, dime-a-dozen internet artist).

I try not to take it too seriously. My twitter is mainly for social/personal networking reasons. As a means to keep up to date with people. I follow a tight knit group of people; most I've interacted with in regards to music. I think at this point I'm cool with just making music with the people in my interconnected circle of people. If s--- happens and someone close blows up, it happens. But I don't have the energy or the drive to promote myself exclusively as an artist. It's an impractical full-time ambition, and I feel it's more a hobby than anything else.

I guess I'm just cool with what has been established. I've met some incredible creative minds doing this music stff, and as a fan first and an artist second, I'm 100% fine with the way things are.

this sums up my feelings generally, I don't like having to do it at all, for any reason lol.

but my desire with music is probably a little diff than yours, cause I want to get mine out there to as many people as possible. not for any kind of monetary desire either, I just want to share my work with the world, so it's hard not to feel like I have to promote somehow.

that's why I sort of like these advertising options. they're cheap af to use on a whim, and they can drum up a little bit of extra action of my accounts for a second and I can set them up around releases so it's nice. I've not really put much effort into ad campaigns so far tho, it's just a random thing I'll do on occasion, that I mainly do with facebook as I'm so inactive on there with my account they barely see poster engagement otherwise
