Mar 4, 2015 Can somebody please explain to me why Dr. Dre let Encore & Relapse get released? He's worshipped as the best hip hop producer alive by many and labeled as a perfectionist, so it doesn't make since to me if Dre is really about making the best possible music. If any other Aftermath artists made similar quality music to those 2 albums, they'd get thrown out of the studio. From a BUSINESS perspective, it doesn't matter what Eminem puts out, if it's a solo album from him, Dre gets a fat paycheck guaranteed, that's not what I'm debating. But I can't picture Dr. Dre enjoying half of Encore or more than 8 songs on Relapse. Then again his favorite MMLP song is Kim... f---ing Dre. I say he doesn't give a f--- what Em drops and lets him do whatever he wants, then just adds better touch ups, which has caused mixed results. I'd be perfectly fine with this if artists like Bishop Lamont & Jon Conner never got signed. Discuss
Mar 4, 2015 He lets those albums out because they always worked for him, every body knows the weird s--- he is capable of and it never stopped him it made him what he is today & it got Dre rich along the way.
Mar 4, 2015 Yeah but when you do that then not allow another artist on your label to drop their album when their music's getting better reception it's blasphemy.
Mar 4, 2015 You're trying to tell me that it's better for a label to release a mediocre-average album by one artist twice & not let a potential good-great album get dropped by another one (especially if they're new) in between or after? The f---? Oh well I should get used to it... it's been happening more often nowadays. lol f--- you spellcheck!
Mar 4, 2015 Only read the first 2 lines but what I know was this: Encore was 2 things. The fact that half the album was ridiculously rushed due to songs like We As Americans and Love You More leaked months before the CD was put out so they wanted to replace them so the fans would get something new. Still had to meet the existing dead line though. That and greed began to take over. Ride off the success of MMLP and TES. Let's not forget it's not Dre who makes the final decision but people like Jimmy Iovine at the time. Relapse let's face it was blind sighted in the fact that Eminem was back after God knows how many years. It was exceptionally well produced but the main thing was Eminem was BACK! Interscope had $$$ in their eyes.
Mar 4, 2015 i remember reading in the way i am book or in some random interview I think. about encore, just like the above poster said it was rushed due to the leaked songs, so he popped some pills went in the booth and made songs like big weenie,a--- like that, my 1st single etc and when he showed dre he just laugh and thought it was ''funny''. Kind of yesmen-ish
Mar 4, 2015 Maybe dre doesn't know good music anymore. Lets face it in the last 10+ years hes needed a ghost writer most of the time. He scraps all his music along with detox. I'm sure their were some great songs along the way that we will never hear. He was part of scrapping inad luckily koolo saved it and with the reception of the song made them release it. I say maybe dre just lost his ear for good music
Mar 4, 2015 Those albums are not great but I don't think they're horrible either aside from a few tracks. And I doubt Dr. Dre would have the power to shelve an Eminem album simply because he didn't like it. Both albums regardless of quality made the label a--- loads of money, and that's the ultimate goal is it not?
Mar 4, 2015 For Dre its Money > quality I think if he didnt have beats by Dre we would have had detox by now
Mar 4, 2015 this makes no sense. he could have released almost anything and called it Detox and made a huge amount of money off of it. we know he has been working on music, so it's not like Beats was taking up all his time
Mar 4, 2015 you're right unless he just didnt care since he would be making more money off beats than to give a s--- about detox
Mar 4, 2015 except he could have easily done both since he was making music while he was doing Beats anyways.
Mar 4, 2015 I dont see em and dre caring about music the same way they did 15 years ago. Obviously they still enjoy doing it but they have nothing to prove. They are arguably the most successful hip hop artists of all-time. Its hard to draw inspiration in your music when you already made to the top and acheived everything you could ever imagine. They do music cause its fun these days, theres no drive like there was years ago when they had to prove something. So i dont blame either of them for letting those albums come out.
Mar 4, 2015 Yeah shame on them for letting out 2 5x platinum albums.... Cmon. Money money money. Em could sell a CD of him humming a melody and go platinum. They're not dumb they know where they're gonna make money regardless of quality.
