Apr 19, 2015 I know baseball's trying so hard to pretend the 'steroid era' didn't exist but if there's anyone from that era that deserves to be in the hall of fame, it's Bonds. There's an argument to be made that he's the best baseball player ever, yet he likely will never get in. He won 7 MVPs (3 before steroids), has 8 gold gloves, was a member of the 500 HRs/500 SBs club, obviously has the home run record and all kinds of walk records among other stuff. He also has on base and slugging records that will never be broken including a year where he got on base 60.9% of the time. I feel like if you consider that he was walked far more than anyone in history, in a way maybe that cancels out part of the advantage steroids gave him since being walked so often obviously took the bat out of his hands a lot. He has 688 career intentional walks, A rod for example who also gets walked a lot and is near the end of his career has 92 career intentional walks. Bonds also has double the career walks of Arod and has 13 seasons where he got walked 100+ times compared to Arod who had 1 season. So that goes to show how much more often Bonds was walked compared to other hitters of his era. I don't expect him to ever make it and most probably agree, but do you feel he deserves to be in there? If not, why? Keep in mind he was a great player (and arguably a HOFer) even before steroids.
Apr 20, 2015 Baseball acts like the steroid era in hindsight tarnished the game but they certainly didn't have a problem with all the fan interest during that time. Let him and anyone from that era in the hof. But the baseball writers who vote are very pompous
Apr 20, 2015 Hated Bonds, but he deserves it. I'm just pissed Mark McGgwire isn't in. The dude averaged a home run once every 10.61 at bats. The walk stats for Bonds are nuts.
Apr 20, 2015 Nope. If Pete Rose can't get in then f--- Bonds. Such a scum bag person too. Not likeable at all
Apr 20, 2015 Based off what I saw Bonds was usually a nice person to fans, he just didn't like the media but yeah he's done some bad stuff. So your reasons for him not getting in have nothing to do with baseball? No one said anything about Rose not deserving it, he should be in too.
Apr 20, 2015 No, I don't think he or anyone else from that era, who are accused of PHDs, should get in. Especially in his case when it's so obvious he took steroids, but he denies it and acts like an a--- about it.
Apr 21, 2015 Just to play devils advocate, Does he get walked as much if he's not hitting 360 a year and 50 homeruns due to steroids? I look at it this way his most productive years where when he was age 35-39. Usually hitters hit the wall around that age. I think the juice helped him in his later years when in theory he should have declined and prob wouldn't have broken Aarons record
Apr 21, 2015 I definitely agree he would not have broken Aaron's record, but that was not necessary for him to make the HOF. You can eliminate that 4-5 year period you mentioned and his career easily warrants a large consideration. Eventually, they will have to find a solution for this 10 year stretch of baseball. It was the best years for baseball in the last 40 years and cannot be ignored.
Apr 21, 2015 I agree he would have had a hall of fame career regardless but his ego got the best of him and he wanted to be the best ever but in the process he cheated doing it. This is why ken Griffey jr will always be my favorite player. He played the game right and if it wasn't for injuries we would prob be talking about him as the all time home run leader. Griffey is the real winner in that era he will be a girst ballot HOF. I don't think you can allow bonds in because once you do then you have to allow the others in
Apr 21, 2015 If the steroid era must be in the HOF have their busts in the bathrooms. Preferably in the urinals.
