Second ever thing recorded, and although I like the lyrics, I just don't like how my voice sounds in the raps.

I had to record this with no headphones, so I didn't listen to the beat while recording. #TheStruggle

You should probably rap over the beat if you want to be on it. :drake5:

Flows come with practice. Time spent imitating flows will translate (hopefully) to creating your own. So put some hours in and watch the progress come. Always over a beat. It will guide you.

What flows should I imitate? I like many rappers, but what do you think I should start off with?

Try imitating the flow that the rapper uses on the song

I don't know. I tend to take on characteristics of the people I'm listening to at the time even if it isn't on purpose. Almost every major rapper has a sound flow. Who ever you admire should be fine. Maybe aim for one that suits your voice or persona.

Imitation is a simple way to practice flowing without necessarily understanding it. Most of the time the rhymes are structured in context to the drums. The drums dictate the rhythm most of the time (unless Alchemist leaves them out). The most simple flow is putting an end rhyme on the kick. Flow is difficult to teach because there is so much variability involved. There are infinite ways to spit over a beat, but in time it should click and become second nature.

Perfect example of switching flows can be seen here:

Gibbs switches his flow up 4 times each verse. Each one sounds great and approaches the instrumental in a different way.

You need to work on your technical skills. Study Eminem. listen to Rap God and Best Friend and try to Emulate those flows.

Freestyle as often as you can. Just throw on a playlist of random beats and try to rap along. Be able to detect the beats in the song, that 1 2 3 4 rhythm. Different flows work with different tempos. You could even practice rapping to a metronome, that way you can keep your rhythm over different BPM (beats per minute) settings.

I know that you probably wouldn't do it but after practicing rapping in English when I came back flowing on my first language I completely dominated it without any problem so you can try rapping at another language were you got a little bit of knowledge. It's really useful.
