Dec 21, 2014 Surely you can't understand them all the time just by listening. If you use rapgenius, how do you go about using it? Do you listen to the song and then check the lyrics meaning after you listen to it? I need to know so I can listen to classics properly.
Dec 21, 2014 go listen to interviews. find out what was going through the mind when they made a certain song or project and that will give you lots of insight into who the artist is and why he decided to use those lyrics or songs as proposed to something else.
Dec 21, 2014 watch for syllables that rhyme with each other, forwards or reverse look for allusions to other lyrics notice ways words land on and between particular instruments many times a lyric will be a metaphor for several different things stories to follow can span multiple verses and multiple tracks note when bars have the same number of rhyming syllables or syllables in general rapgenius often doesn't even have the right lyrics much less aways the right meanings. checking multiple sites helps a lot, researching people, places and events referenced. I'll do some independent fact checking if there's a line where I really want to understand the mindset of the writer
Dec 21, 2014 But how do you do all this when the song is too fast to keep up with? Should you study the song after listening to it? This would mean multiple pauses in an album.
Dec 21, 2014 english might not be his first language...i have to listen to a song 3 times at least to get it
Dec 21, 2014 just listen to it in depth. Sooner or later you will hit a revelation and be like OH MY GOD THAT s--- WAS FIRE its not like your studying for a f---ing test or some s---
Dec 21, 2014 I never pause an album on the first listen there's nothing wrong with replaying something until you get it though, we all do that on each listen, try to focus on looking for different things
Dec 21, 2014 Nah, it's not that. I can understand the meaning of a song, but not the many metaphors and stuff like that.
Dec 21, 2014 A Also, realistically, how many times should you listen to an album before you move on to the next one in the artist's discography?
Dec 21, 2014 lots of people listen to an album or particular songs nearly every day til the next one comes out, that could be dozens of plays or more, s--- will start to stick if you're new to hiphop and deciphering metaphors, it could be difficult especially if artists are referencing their previous work or each other
Dec 21, 2014 Actually, pausing and reading along with lyrics is something I do often. I'll play just a verse, or half a verse and digest it. This always depends on the artist though. Some artists write more linear than others (Drake) so you don't need to do this. But songs like Untitled (Multiply) is something I did this for. He's getting somewhere with the verses, and that's easy to overlook if I'm just listening.
Dec 21, 2014 i do this with multiple Kendrick verses. his verses are so in depth and have so much story behind them that it s crazy at times
Dec 21, 2014 Yeah, I'm new to seriously understanding hip-hop. I'm listening to many discographies, and I notice that it's hard to understand lyrics sometimes if I don't pause and go check out rapgenius.
Dec 21, 2014 Sound waves travel into the ear canal until they reach the eardrum. The eardrum passes the vibrations through the middle ear bones or ossicles into the inner ear. The inner ear is shaped like a snail and is also called the cochlea. Inside the cochlea, there are thousands of tiny hair cells.
