I see nobody posted it so, yeah, yesterday we did a referendum an the yes won by 90% even though we had Spanish police beating up civilians (lot of them, eldery) trying to keep em from voting.

How did the media portray it in your country?

The only place I've seen anything about it was on Reddit.

Situation seemed pretty f-----, even saw a picture of firefighters shielding voters from riot police that were there trying to stop people, apparently the firefighters were subsequently f----- up as well.

    What I have seen is

Just 42% voted and from those 90% said yes. The no-people stayed at home

Also the referendum was not legit according to the spanish government so it doesnt count anyways.

Also the spanish police were ordered to stop the referendum

Thats what the news says here.

Spanish police stopped 770.000 possible voters. Even if all of them voted for NO, yes would still have won.
There were international observers saying it was pretty legit, but police action was like wtf

Yes I know and I'm worried about that (regardless of how I feel about all of it). I just hope there will be no more innocent people who get hurt with all of this..

yeah I voted for yes. My dad slept in one of the electoral schools with many people, to protect it from the police. I can assure you everything is super peaceful from us, and people of all backgrounds voted for yes. There is a lot of context in this movement, but I find the situation pretty surreal overrall. Spanish government and media say such ridiculous things that you cant believe your ears. They say we are doing a coup d'etait to democracy because... well we wanted to vote.

Well it has a lot of layers. I always was a political guy but I didnt care about the independence that much. Its just that years pass, Spain never changes, on control we have a king put tthere by a dictator, the grandsons of the facism times (literally) and everything about Franco is still allowed (like the infamous Valle de los Caidos, mausuleum to Franco, paid with public money). Add to that, the level of corruption in Spain is insanely high, like new cases every week, up in our faces with impunity.

Catalunya always had their own culture and thinking. The independence movement always existed, and our culture has been forbiden 2 or 3 times during history. In the media they call us nazis, talibans, terrorists.. whatever you want, just because we want to protect our culture. I dont know man, we dont think Catalunya is the promised land and we dont hate Spanish people, but we had enough of waiting and not being listened by Spain. If they tried to listen, this would have ended long time ago. They f----- it up.
