For me, I was browsing rapradar and a new Tech N9ne song dropped, it was I Love Music Featuring Kendrick Lamar and someone else. I remember people were already hyping up this Kendrick guy but to me that particular song didn't impress me at all and I thought it was just another guy people hype up as usual. Then, The R.E.D. Album dropped, I was at the gym listening to it for the first time. The hook on it was very impressive but then... The acapella verse started. That s--- changed everything, d--- near crushed myself on the decline bench press.

Thought this would make for an interesting thread.

    Go.

It was just Sec. 80 plain and simple. I think that was around the same time I heard HoB and got into the weeknd. But anyways, heard the tape, let it grow on me, and then ventures onto YouTube. Everything from the monster, and six foot seven remixes, look out for detox, then random songs like heart pt 2, cut you off etc.

Then I eventually downloaded the EP and OD

I listened to Overly Dedicated and then went back to listen to KLEP. Section.80 came out while I was visiting NY and so I bought it off iTunes and listened on the plane ride home (ended up being the perfect setting for my first listen of Hol' Up lmaoo) and I was pretty much a stan from there. :mjcry:

The first song that made me a fan of Kendrick is this though, still an all time favourite for me:

I used to post on the original BWS website. In 2005 when his training day mixtape came out someone posted it and I downloaded it.

One day I ended up reading an article about how Dre was working with some up-and-comer and In Dre I Trust so I gave him a listen and haven't looked back since.

When I was a huge Game groupie during the G-Unot days I remember him being featured on a lot of Games stuff as K. Dot. Thought he was good back then but never really checked for any of his other stuff. Then I heard that interview Dre did with Big Boy where he said he wants to work with him, few days later Kendrick dropped Look out for Detox and killed it, became a fan after that.

I think it was back when HiiiPower dropped. Saw that song leak or get posted on SL, thought it was great. Then checked S80 and been glued to his music ever since then.

First time I heard him was 2007 but I didn't even know it was him until I found him again through Look Out For Detox in 2010. This is an old unreleased Game song and Kendrick is calling himself K Dot at the time.

Seems like most people heard of Kendrick from Game. Either on the city or older game s---. I swear Game get's no credit for putting the west back on the map.
