Nov 28, 2014 The first entry in a series on the most overlooked and mislabeled groups in rap history... Cypress Hill Cypress Hill broke into the scene with an onslaught of strong singles, and less notably, strong albums in quick succession. Cypress Hill (1991) and Bloody Sunday (1993) introduced us to B-Real's unmistakable presence, their trademark adlibs, and a Latin spin on West Coast production. Although less acclaimed, III: Temples of Boom (1995) successfully took their strengths into sonically darker, Mobb Deep-like territory. While they are widely recognized for weed anthems and B-Real's unique persona, their early catalog is often forgotten. Perhaps this is most aptly emphasized by the name of their best of compilation: "Greatest Hits From the Bong". Next Up: People Under the Stairs
Nov 28, 2014 cypress hill albums were some of the first rap albums i got i dont think they are underated ,who hasnt heard of cypress hill?still have temples of boom on cd it so scratched doesnt even play anymore. need to download it again
Nov 28, 2014 I chose them mostly for the "mislabeled" aspect. Anybody worth their salt is familiar with Cypress Hill, but I know tons of people who can only name their hits. That's approaching criminal considering the albums under their belt. This thread is just a vehicle to talk about groups other than Three 6, UGK, Mobb Deep, Rakim & Eric B, g--- Starr, Outkast etc. I mean Wu-Tang is cult status and they have like 1.5 really good albums as a group. Big L has tons of casual fans and less than half of them have listened to DITC. Gotta have that clickbait mayne.
Nov 29, 2014 I think Underappreciated isn't the correct term for Cypress Hill. They definitely get their due. For me, and probably many others, they lost their appeal when I stopped smoking weed.
Nov 29, 2014 I haven't been a regular smoker for a couple of years. It hasn't stopped me from enjoying music that has to do with smoking. I enjoy all kinds of music wherein the content doesn't apply to me specifically. Every rappers falls off (except Aesop and Ghostface).
Nov 29, 2014 Never could get into Cypress Hill for some reason, but I'd rep you if I could for mentioning People Under The Stairs, I never see them talked about and it's a shame, I really like them; my favourite song is Empty Bottle Of Water I think, but they have so much good stuff!
Nov 29, 2014 think Cypress Hill is probably discussed appropriately, but this could still be a cool thread. grimm teachaz next please
Nov 29, 2014 Cypress Hill were really great for their first 3 albums. Everything post Temples of Boom has been hit or miss, really. I agree with OP. Those who are familiar with Cypress Hill's discography beyond Insane In The Brain (and who were potentially old enough to understand their influence in the early 90's) appreciate them for what they were but they're beyond irrelevant in today's state of rap music, unlike other influential artists of the 90's who have managed to stay relevant.
Nov 29, 2014 As a 20 year old, that's the point of view I'm speaking from/to exactly. @LasiK I'm sure if I was 10 years older and from LA it would be a completely different story.
Mar 11, 2015 Good call on People Under the Stairs, they've got some great songs (Montego Slay and Acid Raindrops are easily my top two). A few others: Little Brother Hieroglyphics Jurassic 5
