Jun 23, 2015 Given the recent events in Charleston, SC and the fact that it looks like a foregone conclusion that they will remove the image of the Confederate Flag from their government buildings etc., do you think Kanye would still support someone wearing it, even people of color?
Jun 23, 2015 i own every ktt domain other than .com ... i do the same for a lot of forums ... your site means nothing..i do it for lulz
Jun 23, 2015 kanye wearing it is different from yelawolf wearing it (or from it being flown at a state capitol).
Jun 23, 2015 Kanye just weared it as a provocation and a "f--- symbols" symbol, but if he do it now, it will be seen as a support to the conservatives so I don't think he will.
Jun 23, 2015 The flag means different things for different people. For a lot of people, it symbolizes people who wanted slaves. For other people, what it symbolizes has nothing to do with slavery. For rational people, symbols are harmless because they're actually meaningless.
Jun 23, 2015 eh. i agree with you on a lot of things, but this is reductive--and it's a luxury to hold this position. a state legislature that refuses to take down a confederate flag suggests other things about that state. imagine being a black person in mississippi and seeing your neighbor fly a confederate flag. insisting that symbols don't have any meaning, power, or sociopolitical import is "intellectual" in the most masturbatory way.
Jun 23, 2015 Like it or not the USA's history isn't really accepting of blacks. I feel like even though the flag was flown for those race reasons it isn't 100% valid that thats the reason people are flying it now. However when you see the flag out of the south then I have an issue with it.
Jun 23, 2015 the flag is for the confederacy. the confederacy was fighting to preserve slavery. this is not really a nuanced issue.
Jun 23, 2015 I said the issue is more nuanced than "racists bad, take it down." I'm suggesting we make the conversation LESS reductive. There's a difference between a government choosing to take a flag off its buildings -- something it should be able to do -- and telling individuals they don't get to display something anymore. I'm free to find the flag offensive, and I do. But I don't have the right to tell other people not to display it and neither do you. That's fundamental to our society and this is censorship in the most blatant sense. You don't change the way people think by legislating what harmless abstraction they can wear or put on their car. It's been tried. THIS is reductive. If this were only about race it would be simpler: You don't stop people from being racists by telling them they can't be honest about it, you just force them to lie about it. Honest discourse should always be encouraged in a progressive society.
Jun 23, 2015 Its part of the history there so its a bit more understandable. But I'm in Canada and there are moos who have it up, 90% of the time they just don't like black people
Jun 23, 2015 We were in a war with the Nazi's. That's in history also, but we don't hang up Nazi flags on the back of our Ford pick-up trucks. Obviously not the same, I know. Just saying it doesn't really make sense to me to have pride in that flag
Jun 23, 2015 No but if someone in germany still wanted to fly a swastica (Btw japan has a bunch on old buildings and stuff still) than I don't have as big of issues with it as if someone wants to fly it in america
Jun 23, 2015 The Confederacy was fighting for state's rights. That happened to include slavery. You're the one being reductive here. There are plenty of people who fly the flag without racist intent. Just the same as people wearing Nietzsche shirts without a motive behind it. I agree it shouldn't be flown at the capital. That's insulting. Otherwise, who cares.
