I mean, it's easy for you to sit back and be like "in my first world country it's acceptable so it should be there!" but that's not the case. and what, like, 20 years ago being gay wasn't really as socially acceptable as it is today. now think, 100 years ago - even worse. It's still part of their culture to look down upon gay people, the same way it was seen in the US 20 or so years ago.
