Before the TPAB stans come in here to cape, I want to open with this: ALLA puts you in a mood, where as you need to be in a certain mood to listen to TPAB.

I don't know which album is better yet, I haven't listened to ALLA enough to rate it. But I will say, that A$AP found a creative space with this joint, and it echoes through each track. I'm only 4 listens deep, so I won't cement this comparison yet, but this is sort of like what Take Care was for Drake. Drake found a sound and ran with it.

There's continuity throughout this joint, but theres enough switch ups to keep it interesting throughout. That's in between tracks, and even on tracks. I love that s---, it keeps it interesting. It's a very mellow listen, but he'll pick up the pace throughout the album on joints like Everyday, LPFJ2 and M'$. Then there's subdued joints with a great pace, West Side Highway, Electric Body, Canal St.

18 tracks seems long in a period where a lot of artists are slipping back to the 10-13 track range, but each track on this joint is central to the project's identity.

From the limited listens I've given this joint, I love it. The only other 2015 album I liked this much off early listens was Barter 6.

thought this thread was gonna be a dumb post. You had my attention instantly lol. But yeah this album does have a great sound. As far as TPAB comparisons go, I really only think its the soulness that the 2 have in common.
side note: Canal St. sounds like it could fit with the sound of IYRTITL

Word, I agree. It would fit pretty naturally on that album.

A$AP Rocky killed that joint, not even Drake could have made a better song out of that, and this type of music is home turf for him.

Prefer Rocky's sound on LiveLA to this album but I need a few more listens. I still think he ventured too far in to drakes sound instead of keeping his own that he had on LiveLA. LSD is absolutely goat tho, s--- makes you feel a type of way

And you said you don't have writing skills!

I agree with most of this—I'm still gonna write a review btw.

y'all paint pictures with ur words. you can get a point across in 3 sentences and @Narsh is really nice with the metaphors.

i can only write when i feel strongly about something, otherwise i type a lot and say very little.

i'm hype to read your review, i haven't read any thoughts on the album from anyone on this site aside from the first few pages in meero's initial reactions thread.

Yeah same. If I'm writing a review on something I usually wait to read other people's in-depth thoughts on it until after I write my first draft so I'm not subconsciously stealing thoughts/ideas from anyone or let them sway me initially. Then I go and see if there's anything I missed and should touch upon or if one of my points is argued against in a way I never thought of.

i honestly thing the only similarity is the ambience, but then A$AP can flow on those joints with a more subdued flow than drake can.

i feel like drake has 2 modes lately, 6 god or from time. rocky shows way more range on this joint than anything Drake has dropped lately, and I'm a Drake stan 110%.

    excuse me >>
    wavybone >>
    west side highway >>

these joints are a slight departure from Drake's sound, but rocky has enough charisma in his flow to give these joints their own identity. i'm sure this album will serve as inspiration for VFT6. SWISH too probably.

f---. I read op 25 minutes before my meeting. Guaranteed the word "joint" comes out my mouth at least 3 times during. Just hope it's in the best context possible.

I've only read a few things you've said about ALLA but it seems like you're really dismissing ASAP but praising artists you have a predisposition for liking (Future, Kanye). Future's part is no doubt a highlight of the album, but Kanye's verse is pretty lackluster (beat is phenomenal though). Honestly thinking Barter 6 is the second coming is a lot worse than thinking ALLA is IMO - B6 is great but in terms of artistic progression ASAP shows a lot more on this than Thug does on B6. Not that that takes anything away from B6, but as you said yourself it's a more accessible version Thug. It's not really anything different than he's been doing, while ASAP is experimenting with different sounds (which doesn't make it better in and of itself either).
