Religion is a huge, deep, and complex topic to discuss. It's almost as toxic if not more than politics when it comes to fiery debates and it's always a good time shootin the s--- on what you really believe your purpose on this Earth is for. Religion is a fundamental backbone to a person's beliefs and when you start to challenge those beliefs you begin to challenge a person's very own purpose, existence and identity. But should our lives be defined and given purpose through religion? Why is it that religion has the power to do this? Where did it come from? Did it all come from the same source and branch out into many different variations? Is there really a messiah for each culture's religion? Is religion even real? Was it created to control people? Was it created to hide the real truth? Is it used as a distraction?

Religion is a major troll from people over 2000 years ago. Could there be a God? Sure. If there is, is the God from one of the man made religions? No.

A few years ago I could've discussed the subject of religion for hours but now I simply don't care enough. Religion, for some, is their reason for being alive. It's a system to dictate right from wrong, a reason to life's unanswered questions, and essentially a safety net for their entire existence. If that gets someone through each day with the goal to be a better person then cool on them. For me it never made sense. I'd rather live my life as an individual and base my morality on experience and logical instances.

That being said, I do have an interest in Buddhism and it's philosophical roots. It's a non theistic religion. Buddha wasn't a God. He was a living person that taught others his way of living, both through moral and social respect and equality. It's more a way of life than it is a religion. It allows you to make your own choices, good or bad, as long as you understand the potential outcomes. There's no going to h--- for having sex or doing drugs or being lazy. It's a religion based on self awareness and oneness with the Earth.

But nah I don't think about Religion much. Just live my day to day how I wish to live it.

Totally understand. I agree with you in that religion really never made sense for me and that I'd rather live as an individual and set my own moral standards and do's and dont's (which tend to lineup with ones from Christianity for the most part) but either way I don't need someone 2000 years ago telling me what I should do in a completely different society and world. At least that was my mindset when I was brought up through Catholic schools from K-12 and I still have a bit of that in me now but I'm becoming more open-minded about religion and people because as I come across more and more hardships in life, I'm realizing there needs to be an anchor for yourself to keep you level and balanced through great times and terrible times. Some type of ideology that keeps you rooted in your beliefs no matter the circumstances. If you believe in being kind to people and being fair and doing good for others and that's your core belief system, that should carry with you whether you are homeless on the streets and people look at you funny or if you own a multibillion dollar corporation and have immense power. If that belief system is rock solid, it should keep your intentions, morals, and mind anchored to what is really important life which comes down to your personal core beliefs. If religion is that to people, then I completely understand why religion is alive and thrives. I just believe there can be things other than religion to be your anchor through life which I think you were getting at.

I have been recently interested in Buddhism and what it has to offer as I feel their beliefs and ideals match up to mine the closest out of all the religions for the reasons you stated. I'm beginning to believe that God is within us and God represents the perfection in man/woman and it's possible to reach that perfection or christ conscious. I also think meditation is amazing for the mind and that's another reason I f--- with Buddhists.

I believe that the big three have done nothing but harm and have set us back as a species. In regards to eastern religions, I belive that they are a good set of morals to live by.

It helps when it keeps all the little piggies inline... But it's obviously a retardant to progress. I actually go to church twice a week when I'm not working out of town to keep the peace with certain people... I get nothing but disdain out of it.

That's ridiculous. I had a friend in college who was from the South and had the same issue. In his town if you didn't go to Church you were shunned. Real Christian like....

I'm not the least bit religious and never have been, but I do think religions do some good. For many people religion can help get them through tough times and give them the feeling that something is always there for them when no one/nothing else is, so in that sense it can be good. I do think it's kinda sad when people dedicate their whole lives to something that's (in my opinion) based on false beliefs though.

I also don't like the idea of there being so many different religions, feel like it creates separation among people. But I guess you could also say it brings certain groups closer together.

I think it's a sad and near worthless hindrance to progress in our society, one for the generally simple minded or those who are too scared to willingly to question the reality of things and would rather not have to think very hard about it all.

People live, people die. We'll always ask "why?" and perhaps we'll never find out. Religions are a scam, yet they serve a legitimate purpose in many people's lives. Believe what you want to believe, as long as you're happy as often as possible in your microscopic, forgettable existence.

Or we're a simulated computer program.
