Oct 14, 2016 like its not like u listen to rap to learn about world history and philosohpy and s--- but its kinda nice to have some substance in a song and s--- but like some ppl go overboard with it and have like ridiculously high standards and need like a da vinci code kit to decypher aesop rocks 3rd dimension quantum physicals but like also some 13 year old cacpackers dont even listen to the lyrics like wtf are u doing go listen to pop or techno or rock or jazz or ambient sweedish dream pop or some s--- wrong genre bruh and s--- but idk its all subjective edit: -dp
Oct 14, 2016 Lyricism always been important in hip hop bro. It doesn't have to be a lyrical masterpiece but it's its lyrically trash, then the song just can't be better than a 5/10
Oct 14, 2016 Lyricism is the precision demolition decision vision derision collision of word which determines how good a song is
Oct 14, 2016 I agree that you need a good balance between these 2 (something Lupe Fiasco doesn't have since hes still trying to make puzzle music)
Oct 14, 2016 I think it's important, but there are so many different approaches to lyricism that many people might overlook some approaches as non-lyrical. I think Future is a lyricist.
Oct 14, 2016 it's important in hip-hop but for me there are more important things such as production, delivery or charisma also by lyricism I mean good lyrics or clever wordplay but not some crazy lyrical myrical s--- that needs a dictionary and an encyclopedia to understand it
Oct 14, 2016 It doesn't have to be top notch lyricism, you can still be lyrical by having original thoughts or ideas, or being deeply introspective. With that being said, I'd rather hear an acapela rap song than an instrumental song so I'd say its still the most important aspect for me.
Oct 14, 2016 talking about lyricism in hip hop is always so cringeworthy to me like cole has "substance" but he is "lyrically" so f---ing boring and s--- someone like wayne can lack substance sometimes but lyrically is so much better and worth listening to
Oct 14, 2016 Like someone said before, there's different approaches to lyricism. Substance is part of lyricism and Wayne is lyrical too (good wordplays, metaphors, etc)...
Oct 14, 2016 which is why i think its kinda impossible to even talk about everyone has different definitions for what good "lyricism" is like some ppl think its being as complicated as possible, or talking about social issues, or envoking strong emotions or being vivd. but so often people just say "lyrical" its way too vague of a term to me personally idk what it means
Oct 14, 2016 It's also interesting how a lot of old heads don't consider eminem as a good lyricist, they usually say that complex rhyming = being technical, not being lyrical It would be interesting to determine what makes a rapper lyrical.
Oct 14, 2016 Tbh I dont even listen to aesop for lyrics his sound the way his voice contrasts beats is whats interesting imo but overall depends wat type of lyricism ur talking that s--- em does nowadays rhyming to just rhyme is really trash imo
Oct 14, 2016 well thats there fault for being uneducated and not using google. lyricism is lyricism ˈlɪrɪsɪz(ə)m/ noun an artist's expression of emotion in an imaginative and beautiful way; the quality of being lyrical. Eminem (the artist) does not express emotion in an imaginative and beautiful way, he expresses emotion through a train wreck of choppy flows and screaming/yelling/whispering
Oct 14, 2016 complex rhyming is a really stupid thing to care about. thats all it is, nothing more nothing less.
Oct 14, 2016 lyricism ˈlɪrɪsɪz(ə)m/ noun an artist's expression of emotion in an imaginative and beautiful way; the quality of being lyrical. Ok, so Future, as a "real1" showing emotion or expressing it is looked down upon and seen as a sign of weakness, so future does his raps in an imaginative beautiful way, he drowns himself in lean and other drugs, so he no longer cares about showing emotion. He then beautifully adds autotune or other distortions to again, mask the pain that he's feeling.
